Educational Visits
Currently there are two types of visit available, briefly described as follows;
Mill Tour Visit.
This type of visit consists of a tour of the working watermill and looks at the procedure involved in flour making, utilising the power of water. There are many sights, sounds and smells to stimulate the children and several “hands on” opportunities are provided.
It takes approximately one hour to tour the Mill. Because of Health and Safety considerations we impose a limit of 15 children being inside the Mill at any time. Children not touring the Mill should be occupied in the adjacent classroom, utilising the schools own teaching materials and resources.
This type of visit usually entails the group being on site between two and three hours, and is currently provided free of charge, courtesy of United Utilities.
Design Technology Day.
Only recently introduced, but already proving very popular with Primary Schools, this is the ideal opportunity to tackle the subject of Design and Technology. The subject comes alive for children as a result of exploring a fully working watermill, and then engaging in the making of models, based on the working mechanisms witnessed at first hand.
This is an all day visit, commencing at 10-00am, and finishing at 3-00pm.
The classroom session is tutor led, and all materials are provided. Any uncompleted work can be taken back to school.
Because of the additional associated costs, there is a charge for each workshop, but this is substantially discounted by United Utilities to make it affordable to most schools. The charge is currently £130 per workshop.
For each type of visit we accept school groups of up to 30 in number. Where a class size exceeds this number we try to be sufficiently flexible to accept one or two more, but you are requested to discuss such matters with the Warden prior to booking a visit.
